INTRODUCTION

The National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) was established in 1993 by the Federal Government and charged with the statutory functions of conducting Technical and Business Examinations in Nigeria. The function of NABTEB is considered very elastic in that it has harmonized several technical and business examinations presently available in the labour market.

Since inception, NABTEB has provided purposeful direction for Technical, Business and Vocational Education and Training at the Post-Basic and Senior Secondary levels in Nigeria, with remarkable success.

The Transportation sector is not just a major sector of the Nigerian economy it is indeed the fulcrum on which the economic life of the nation revolves.

Over the years, the training and certification of operational manpower particularly at the junior and middle level management in the logistics and transport sector were grossly neglected. This resulted in the dearth of qualified human capital capable of Manning the critical areas of the industry effectively. The consequences of the skill-gap created by lack of well structured and directed training programmes, poor institutional attention and the negative attitudes of our youths towards skill acquisition are but not limited to incompetency, operational inefficiencies and anxiety/fear of investments. In a nutshell, a high level of mismanagement by ignorance runs across many critical areas of the logistics and transport industry, and the nation is the worse for it.

In realization of the consequential role of the logistics and transport sector to the social, economic, commercial and industrial life of the nation, NABTEB find it compelling to develop this programme with the cardinal aim of producing competent Hands at the operational levels for the Transportation sector.

We assure you that candidates that pass through this programme are skilfully equipped to meet the needs of the industry in the specific areas they are trained.

Consequent on the above, NABTEB decided to approve CENTRE FOR LOGISTICS & TRANSPORT EDUCATION (CELOTE) as the Centre for the training of candidates for its examinations in Transportation Practice.

We invite you to take advantage of this training programme as it will give you the needed skills for excellent performance.
